Who is Clyde Thrift
I was born in Coquille Oregon, in the "Summer of 42'. Following moves to Winchester and Roseburg, I came to Coos Bay, in the 8th grade. We went to high school during
"Happy Days", and I attended the University of Oregon as war, protest, and women's lib were taking hold. My combination of being an art major, Greek Fraternity member and ROTC Cadet left me a little conflicted. After marriage in 1964, to my high school classmate, Diane Kingsley, I spent seven years in the US Air Force with OSI, in Denver Colorado, Ankara Turkey, and Washington D.C., returning to Coos Bay/North Bend with two young sons.
Besides the Military, I had three other phases in my adult life. For eleven years I worked in our family wholesale business. When it was sold, I became a General Contractor, which included building a cabin on Tenmile Lake as a family adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed my boys' sports and activities. I had my community involvement as president of both the Coos Bay/North Bend Rotary Club and the Coos Art Museum Board.
Diane and are both avid Duck fans, traveling to Bowl Games and other world-wide spots These years also brought with them some medical issues, limiting my mobility. I retired in 2003. Pushed by family and friends, especially Jerry Larsen, I took up painting...NOT houses. This has given me much needed purpose, and I treat it like a full-time job.
2020 has changed all of our lives. As I paint, I interpret what I see. I attempt to say through my paintings, the things that are important to me...choosing an appropriate medium to compliment them. Whether it is sculpture, building or painting, it is a decision-making process. And...I am still known for a clean car.
